Detailed description

Butler National Golf Club is an exclsive, all male, private 18 hole golf course located in the Western suburb Oak Brook, Illinois. Butler National is a private, members only club with membership by invitation only.

The course was designed by George and Tom Fazio.

Golf Digest consistently ranks Butler National among the "Top 100" golf courses in America. In 2012, Golf Digest rated Butler National the nation's 11th-toughest course and No. 1 in Illinois. The member's course rating is 73.9 with a slope of 144, measured at 6,720 yards. The back tees stretch the course to 7,523 yards with a course rating of 78.1 and a slope of 152.

One of the keys to a low score is the par-3s. #s 5, 8 11, 13 are the par-3s. That means the your tee shot should land on the green and you two putt for par. But alas, the greens are are guarded by water hazards which should be no problem if you stick the green.

A number of holes have a creek in play and #5, 13 and 14 encircle the lake providing both a vision and a challenge.

The toughest hole on the course is most likely #9, a par-4. The tree lined fairway's landing area for the ninth narrows as it nears the green. The green is also elevated and guarded well by a left greenside bunker. Additionally, there is a hazard to the left of the green. This hole demands an accurate tee shot.

Butler National Golf Course is a traditional 18 hole golf course. The club hosted the Western Open from 1974 to 1990. The tournament featured some of the games best, including Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson (Champion in 1974, 1977, and 1984), Hale Irwin (Champion in 1975) and Tom Kite (Champion in 1986).
