History:

In late September 1897, Des Moines Golf and Country Club was established with articles of incorporation and acquisition of forty-acres north of the station at the end of Ingersoll Line.

In 1923 the Ashworth estate in West Des Moines was purchased and a new 18-hole golf course was designed. In 1966, the new east-west freeway cut through the the golf course and members voted to move and build a new facility, that would have two golf courses, doubling the size of the clubhouse as well as membership.

In 1966, the members purchased 471 acres in West Des Moines, the first 18 holes (North Course) were opened in the spring of 1968, followed by the opening of The South Course in 1969. In 1970, the club officially relocated to it's new location on a hillside overlooking a valley in West Des Moines.

The club hosted the 1999 U.S. Senior Open, with a record 200,000 fans showing up for the three-day event that was won by Dave Eichelberger.

The Club will host the 2017 Solheim Cup.
