Detailed description

White Bear Yacht Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Dellwood, Minnesota.

White Bear Yacht Club golf course has a long history. The club was originally founded in 1889 and has been listed by the USGA as one of the first 100 clubs established in the U.S. In addition, it was recognized by "GOLF Magazine" in their 1995 list of "The First 100 Clubs in America." "GOLFWEEK" selected it 86th among "America's 100 Best Classical Courses" for 1998, 70th for 1999, and 59th for 2001.

White Bear Yacht Club golf history began in 1912 with the services of George Turpie as professional. He was followed in 1916 by Tom Vardon, brother of the famous Harry Vardon, originator of the overlapping grip and six time winner of the British Open.

White Bear Yacht Club member, Harrison (Jimmy) H. Johnston won numerous golf events, including the 1929 U.S.G.A. Amateur Championship played at Pebble Beach.

The "present day" course first opened for play in 1920. The course was designed by Donald Ross.

This course was built on gently rolling hills and has many oak trees lining its fairways. The greens provide most of the challenge because they are fast, sloped, and full of subtle breaks. This Donald Ross designed golf course is one of the most interesting golf courses in Minnesota. Tom Doak, an expert on classic golf design, said that it has some of the best Donald Ross holes he had ever seen. Not a small statement as Ross is credited with either full or partial design of 22 courses in the most recent listing of the “Top 100 Classical Golf Courses.” The variations in lie, green undulations and raw beauty of the course make it one of those special layouts that a golfer would never tire of playing.

The White Bear Yacht Club Golf Course plays to a maximum distance of 6,471 yards for a course rating of 72.1 and a slope rating of 135.
