Detailed description

High Meadows Golf & Country Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Roaring Gap, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains near the North Carolina and Virginia state borders.

High Meadows Golf & Country Club first opened for play in 1964. The course was designed by George Cobb.  John LaFoy renovated the course in 1985.

The Winston-Salem Journal and Sentinel dated December 8, 1963, described the course thusly: “The course stretches over gently rolling hills and valleys having no arduous climbs. Features of the course allow it to have no blind holes and no two holes are alike. Cobb said the course will be one of the finest mountain resort courses in the southeastern United States. The golf course is of championship caliber, having sufficient length to hold a USGA or PGA sponsored tournament. Yet by the flexibility in the teeing area, it will be enjoyed by golfers of all handicaps.” USGA OR PGA sponsored tournament. Yet by the flexibility in the teeing area, it will be enjoyed by golfers of all handicaps.”

Thie course has tree-lined fairways and water hazards that come into play on many holes.  The greens are elevated and well bunkered.

#6 is the most difficult hole on the course. It is a 407-yard, par 4, requiring a straight shot off the tee to split two bunkers in the fairway.

#12 is the signature hole, the tee offers a spectacular view of the lake with the mountains of Southwest Virginia in the background.

#18, a Par 5, challenges with two lakes and a green guarded by a deep bunker front and left.
