Detailed description

Oberlin Golf Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Oberlin, Ohio.

The course dates to 1899. The original 9-hole layout was reconstructed and lengthened between 1922 and 1924. Leasing land from Oberlin College, the reconstructed nine was significantly redesigned in the 1930s. The new configuration not only eliminated the parallel fairways, but also created the nine holes — 3,310 yards — played today, that include several signature holes and a park like environment.

70 acres adjacent and just west of the original nine was acquired at the end of the 1950s so that the course could be expanded to 18 holes. Harold Paddock Sr., designed the new "back" nine. An automobile accident landed Paddock in a hospital for nine months. Greens keeper Frank “Shubie” Kaszubinski and committee chairman Carl Breuning were called in to oversee the project. The 3,223-yard layout, which opened in 1961, largely retained Paddock’s golf hole design of carefully sited tee boxes, well-placed bunkers around greens tilting slightly toward the next tee and no unfair rolls on greens or fairways with doglegs.

The course we see today plays to a par-72 and maximum distance of 6,617 yards.

The course has a century long association with the nearby Oberlin College who's faculty were among the Clubs original founders. Additionally, the front 9 sits on land that is still leased from the college.
